Bandipur National Park

Unlike the Kanha, the Pench, the Tadoba & the Bandhavgarhs, in Katnataka there are no private gypsy/jeep safaris. There are only two kinds of Safaris – one offered by Forest Department and the other offered by a few Associated Resorts where you have to be a guest to avail this service.

Forest Dept. one can be booked online or you can just drop by there and buy the ticket (first come first serve). It is always mini-bus (26-seater) and the duration is approx 2 hours. You can get a jeep but not guaranteed and it happens rarely. While the resort oriented one is only for their guests, it is either in the Open jeep or Canter and you get picked up at the resort itself and it is apporx. for 3 to 3.5 hours and generally considered a superior one. Staying in a particular resort is guaranteed jeep and in other resorts it is mostly a canter and rarely a jeep.

You can contact us at bandipur@wildtrails.in for any queries you might have.

It is always a inclusive package at Bandipur. You need to book a stay at an associated resort and they take care of the safari for you. Please note not all resorts are eligible for this and also again not all resorts are eligible for a open jeep safari but most are associated with Canter* safari. (Safari duration is approx. 3 hrs). Also note these resorts are generally prices exorbitantly but that’s what the market is.

Forest Department also conducts safari for which tickets can be bought at the counter or can also be booked online but it is always a canter safari and very rarely you will get a jeep (if they are available and you happened to be very early at the counter, yes chances are there)

[Canter = 26 seater mini bus]

Kabini Nagarhole

Wish you had contacted me before you booked the resort as we would have helped to pick the right resort 🙁 Anyways lets try to make the most of it.

All you can do is:

  • You have no choice but to go with Forest Dept. safari which is just for an hour-n-half to 2 hours and always via a mini-bus (26-seater). This is always first come first serve. Starts 6am until 8am and again starts at 3pm until 5pm. Ticketing is little complicated. Please download WildTrails India App and see the process. Please don’t go there before reading it else you will regret you went there before reading it.
