Guru Ghasidas National Park

Guru Ghasidas National Park (GGNP) is located near the Dhorgi village in Bharatpur Tehsil of Koriya district.

History of the GGNP dates back to the year 2000. Earlier to the formation of the GGNP, the park area was a called as a Sanjay Reserve in the undivided Madhya Pradesh State. Later, the government of Chhattisgarh established the GGNP in the year 2000 to protect different species of plants, trees, birds and wild animals in Chhattisgarh State, when Madhya Pradesh was divided. A large part of the then Sanjay National Park in the undivided Madhya Pradesh State came under the jurisdiction of Chhattisgarh State, which has renamed it as Guru Ghasidas National Park in the year 2000. The GGNP was established with an objective to protect different species of plants, birds and wild animals in Chhattisgarh. The GGNP is a part of the Sanjay-Dubri Tiger Reserve spread between Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
