Sawai Man Singh Wildlife Sanctuary

Sawai Mansingh wildlife Sanctuary is located at 10 km from Sawai Madhopur city. It is spread across an area of 127.76 sq. km and is located in the habitat of Hilly area of Vindhyas. The Flora of this sanctuary include Dhok, Salar, Churel, Butea with very rare fauna like Sloth Bear, Wild Boar, Caracal, Chital, Chinkara, Hyena, Jackal and Sambhar. Chinkara, Sloth Bear, Jackal, Hyena and Sambhar are the Species of conservation interest and are protected animals.

The passage from the entrance to Sanctuary is turbulent and thrilling with steep rocky countryside where the Blue Bull (Nilgai), Indian Gazelle and the Sambhar deer can be seen moving around the hillside.

Balas and Kundal are two Eco -Tourism sites located within the Sawai Mansingh wildlife Sanctuary.

Balas: Located 9 km away from Sawai Madhopur on the Sawai Madhopur -Kalibhat road. The area of this eco tourism site includes union of the ancient Aravalli hill ranges with that of Vindhyas hill ranges. Due to this assembly of two major hill ranges this area is very rich in bio-diversity. The Vindhyas eco system is distinguished by flat table tops (plateaus) popular as “Dang and Aravalli eco system by sharp rims & conical hill tops. Eco walks up to the Dang have been laid by trails and also motor able paths have been laid to visit the Dang . “Know” is a very deep, wide and long rocky canal cutup naturally in the Dang. They constitute elevated rocky slopes, cliffs, and flat bottoms with deep and fertile soil. Mahakho and Didikho are two khos which are very cool mist and alive throughout the year.

Flora in Balas: The main vegetation is mostly of dhok species with trees like Cheela, Raunj, Tendu, Gurjan, Kadaya, Khaair, Kadamb, Goya khair, Siras, Jamun, Khirni, Saintha, Salar, Kathphadi, Amaltas etc. The Underground varieties are jarked, jal, gangerun, jhadberi. The ground covering varieties of grasses are Chinkali, Bhanjura, Lampla, Sheen, Sedvs, Loth, Jhonudali, and Dada Musi Pharda.

Fauna in Balas: Chinkara, Nilgai, Chital, Sambhar, Hare, Fox, Jackal, Hyena, Jingle Cat, Wild Boar, Sloth beer and Panther are the main animals found in this area.

Peacock, Partridges, Quails, Sand grouse, Stone curlews, Minivets, Flycatchers, Tits, Orioles, Parakeets, Sparrow, and Vultures represent the avifauna. Vultures’ nests are the rare sight in this area.

Kundal: The second Eco- Tourism site located within the Sawai Man Singh Sanctuary. It is located 15 km from Sawai Madhopur on the Sawai Madhopur -Kalibhat road.
