Ranthambore Hotels, Ranthambore Resorts – What, How many and How to pick the right one
Ranthambore Tiger Reserve & National Park is a national park, wildlife sanctuary & a tiger reserve in the Sawai Madhopur District of the state of Rajasthan, around 160 kms from Jaipur, 375 kms from Delhi, & approx. 7 kms from Sawai Madhopur Railway Station.
There are 10 safari gates/zones all across park and are separated by approx. 20kms to 80 kms between the gates. You could hire a gypsy from all of these gates or you could get into a canter (22-seater mini-bus) (not all gates has canter facility) but you need an advance online reservation for the same.

There are 10 zones/gates and they are far apart. Zone 1 to Zone 5 are close by and Zone 6 is approx. 20 kms from there and Zone 7 also and Zone 8 to 1o are very far. Why this matters for the resort selection? I will come to that.
Step 1. You are going to Ranthambore mostly to enjoy the forest, mostly for the Tiger Sightings and some for the Birding and hence first and foremost you need to book the Safari at the right gate/zone. Step 2. Once your safari bookings are done, now figure out what kind of resorts you prefer – there are home stays (budget ones), there are standard ones, there are luxury ones and there are premium ones. As they say “What you get is what you pay for” – verbatim true in Ranthambore. All have Air conditioning, all provide all meals but the difference lies in what kind of amenities you get and how big are the properties and where they are located and what kind of service you get and of course all the add-ons that comes with the hotel/resort.
Approx. budget are, home stays [budget] are approx. 5000 to 7000 per room per night for 2, standard ones are approx. 7000 to 10,000 per room per night for 2, luxury ones are from 10,000 to 17,000 per room per night for 2 and premium ones are 17,000 to 35,000 per room per night for 2 [All in INR]

Words of Caution: You can do it on your own but it’s very painful and confusing process to book the safari online and also it is one the most popular tiger reserves and hence you need to book way too early. Also what resorts are attached to what gates are also confusing. Also what gate to pick for the dates you choose is also very crucial. If you are doing it for the first time, better for experts to do it else everything goes for a mess. Ranthambore Safari Zones Gates Locations:
Gates for Zone 1 to 5 are same entry and for Zone 6 is just a few Kms from the entry gate of Zone 1 to Zone 5 but Zone 7 to Zone are pretty far from the [40 to 70 kms] entry point. Ranthambore Packages – how to select one?

Step 1 : Book Early – can’t say enough. Earlier the better as you get the best zones else you will end up going to zones where there are no tigers or no sightings are happening
