Kanha Safari Entry Gates

Kanha Safari Entry Gates

The article talks in detail about all Kanha Safari Entry Gates and Zones. It has 3 gates and 4 zones. Each gate each is separated from the other by approx. 60 kms.

Kanha Safari Entry Gates:

The three Kanha Safari Entry Gates are Khatia, Mukki & Sarhi Gate. When you book a Safari you don’t need to know the gate but you actually need to know the zone.  Your gate becomes critical when you book Safari which is “Single Seat Permit” as opposed to “Full Vehicle Permit”. Also it becomes critical when you are looking to book the accommodation.

Among all the gates the most popular gate is Khatia Gate.

Kanha Safari Zones:

There are four zones – namely Kanha Zone, Mukki Zone, Kisli Zone, and Sarhi Zone. When you book Safari, you actually book Zone-wise but when you reach the safari point, you actually reach the gate. It gets confusing what zone to book and what gate to go after that. Below article clarifies the doubt. Gates verus Zones Mapping:

Rule of Thumb is if you have booked zone Kanha or Kisli, you go to Khatia Gate, if you have booked Mukki Zone, you go to Mukki Gate and if you have booked Sarhi Zone, you go to Sarhi Gate. So far so good. This is true if you have booked Full Vehicle Permit. But if you have booked Single Seat Permit, you need to read the voucher very carefully and you need to go the gate that is mentioned on the Voucher, don’t follow what we told earlier.

[Technically Speaking, you can go to Khatia gate to go to any zone and you can go to Mukki gate to go to any zone other than Kanha & Sarhi Zone and you have to go to Sarhi gate if yo have to go to Sarhi Zone but the path to all becomes painful and confusing but it is better to stick to the Rule of Thumb unless you are on a single seat permit and in that case just stick to the gate mentioned on the voucher]

Single Seat Permit versus Full Vehicle Permit:

When you are booking Safari, you not only need to select the zone, but also you need select Vehicle Type which is either Single Seat permit or full vehicle permit. In single seat permit you choose to not book the whole Gypsy but a few seats and you are ok to share the Gypsy with some others and also you get to share the Gypsy cost too and hence will work out cheaper. In the full vehicle permit, you book the Gypsy entirely for you and hence no one will be sharing your Gypsy nor the Gypsy charges. Max number of people allowed is 6 but just one or two or any number less than equal to 6 can book the entire Gypsy (but the cost remains the same)
