Ranthambore Safari Booking – What, Where, When and How Long

Ranthambore Tiger Reserve & National Park is a national park, wildlife sanctuary & a tiger reserve in the Sawai Madhopur District of the state of Rajasthan, around 160 kms from Jaipur, 375 kms from Delhi, & approx. 7 kms from Sawai Madhopur Railway Station.

There are 10 safari gates/zones all across park and are separated by approx. 20kms to 80 kms between the gates. You could hire a gypsy from all of these gates or you could get into a canter (22-seater mini-bus) (not all gates has canter facility) but you need an advance online reservation for the same.

Ranthambore Safari Booking

Of all the tiger reserves in India, Ranthambore Safari booking is slightly complicated and also slightly painful process also. In my books, this is the most complicated one among all national parks/tiger reserves safari booking and then again it’s the most sought after tiger reserve too.

Step 1 : go to Rajasthan Government website and after creating logins, choose Wildlife

Step 2: pick Ranthambore national park

Step 3: pick a gate/zone; Zone 1 to Zone 6 are premium as far as tiger sighting goes and zone 7 to zone 10 are good for forest landscape and birding. 

Step 4: pick either Gypsy or Canter (mini Bus) and pick date & session (morning or evening) and enter guest details and book and you are done!!

Ranthambore jungle safari duration

The duration of the ranthambore jungle safari is approx. 4 hrs. There is one in the morning which starts anywhere between 5am to 6am and there is one in the afternoon which starts anywhere between 2.30pm to 3.30pm – the exact tine depends on the season. These safaris are called 1/2 day safaris and they also have a full-day safari option which are sought by professional photographers, wildlife movie makers, those who are passionate about Ranthambore tigers and also those who visit from far-off places and want to take all options that exist over here to make sure they don’t miss any opportunity to sight the tigers!! But note that full-day safari can create a deep hole in your pocket and strictly recommended only for those who can easily afford it 🙂

Words of Caution:  You can do it on your own but it’s very painful and confusing process to book the safari online and also it is one the most popular tiger reserves and hence you need to book way too early. Also what resorts are attached to what gates are also confusing. Also what gate to pick for the dates you choose is also very crucial.
