TIGERS IN PENCH NATIONAL PARK

Pench is a jungle full of Beauty and the Beast. Tigers of Pench are quite famous everywhere and undoubtedly one of the biggest attractions of Pench National Park. Pench is a home for approx 50+ tigers.

Collarwali: 

Collarwali was the first of Barimada’s four cubs to set up on her own. Collarwali has given birth for the 8th time at the start of 2019 with 4 newborns welcomed at the Pench Tiger Reserve. In the last 15 years, the tigress has given birth to 30 cubs, which is a record for the reserve in MP.

Baras (named as Baras, which means twelve due to the 12 mark on her left eye) she is also known as the queen of Khursapar was also spotted several times in Pench.

TIGER CUBS IN PENCH NATIONAL PARK

If you are looking forward to the jungle safari filled with the sightings of tiger cubs, then Pench is a must-visit place for you. A park that is famous for tigresses like Collarwali, Langdi, and Patdev is full of surprises and tiger cubs as well. Tourists have spotted Collarwali with her cubs and also Patdev Tigress with her cubs from time to time.

WILDLIFE FOUND IN PENCH

The biggest attraction of Pench is of course, are Tigers and Leopards that can be seen very often in this park. There are approx 50+ Tigers, 40+ Leopards in Pench. Besides Tigers and Leopards, you can also spot Sloth Bears, Wild Dogs, Wolf, Golden Jackal, Indian Giant Squirrels, and Jungle cats.

HOW MANY SAFARI GATES 

Pench National Park has 10 villages in and around its periphery. Fulzari is the village inside the park along with nine other bordering its limits. Click here to check more about the safari gates in Pench.

Tiger Sighting Zones in Pench

Khursapar– This zone comes under the Maharashtra side of Pench forest and also considered as on the zones for tiger sightings. There are three beautiful water bodies inside this zone, which attracts a lot of birds as well as wildlife. Forest is closed every Tuesday. Forest is closed every Tuesday. Jungle safari can be booked online for this gate.

Karmajhiri–  This gate is also considered as a premium entry gate and also shares the partial area of the Touria zone. Karmazhiri also shares the water bodies. Bodanala, Sitaghat on the banks of Pench river, JhandiMatta.  The park is open from October till June and is closed on Wednesday evenings. 

Sillari– The unique part about this forest is that the entries are open throughout the year even in monsoon season. Sillari forest is a part of the Maharashtra Pench reserve.

TYPES OF JUNGLE SAFARI IN PENCH

There are four types of safaris in Pench from Exclusive to Canter Safari. Price is based on the type of safari you will select.

Exclusive Zone- Free Day long Safari

Max 6 people needed for full-day safari and you can go into any zone in Bandhavgarh. This safari is for one entire day and your food will be packed for the safari. This safari is costlier in comparison to other safaris. The chances of spotting tigers are also very high in full-day safari. 

Exclusive Zone- Restricted Safari

There are 3 core zones in Bandhavgarh i.e Tala, Magadhi and Khitauli. If you are booking tickets for the Magadhi zone then you can go into the Magadhi zone only. Here, it’s very important to choose the zones very carefully and therefore we suggest you to choose the zone based on the Tiger Sightings Index. You can book one whole jeep exclusively for the jungle safari.

Shared zone- Restricted Safari

This jeep safari will be on sharing basis with other wildlife tourists. You can go into those zones only for which you are booking your tickets. The duration of safari will be approx 4 hours. Here also you need to choose the safari carefully for good tiger sightings. 

Canter Safari

Canter is for max 20 people but they expect 12-15 tourists a time. This is also for a given zone for which the ticket is bought by the tourists. So, If you planning to travel in a group more then 6 people then it is best to go for the canter safari.

TYPES OF ACCOMMODATION

There are four kinds of accommodation in Pench and that is the main reason of why some resorts cost so low and some are very expensive:

  • Luxury Resorts: In Pench, some resorts are near to the national park and some are at farther distances. The luxury resorts provide facilities of a gym, game room, swimming pools, and many other amenities.
  • Deluxe Resorts: These resorts have good facilities including a nice restaurant, open-air terrace, with a swimming pool as well.
  • Standard Resorts: Standard resorts have decent facilities that include a swimming pool, spa, library, and a bar and are not too hard on your wallet.
  • Budget Resorts: Good food, Comfortable stay, nature walks.

Pench has core zones and buffer zones. Tiger sighting depends on the zones you are traveling and also Resorts where you are planning to stay. So, if you want a sure shot of Tiger Sightings, then you must know that resorts also play an important role in this. The resorts next to or close to the park offer you convenient access and also you will feel connected to nature without being amongst large crowds.

BEST TIME TO VISIT PENCH

The winter season from November to February is probably the best time to visit Pench National Park. However, the best season to sight tigers would be the hotter months (March, April, and May). The chances of wildlife sightings increases in summers as animals get out more often to drink water. JUNGLE SAFARI TIMINGS

Jungle safaris in Pench National Park are available for morning and evening trips, as this is when the animals are most active.  Summers and Winters have their different time slots for the jungle safari. As per the rule, the park opens up 30 minutes before sunrise and closes 30 minutes prior to sunset. Click here to check the jungle safari timings in detail.

How to reach Pench

Nearest Airport: Jabalpur and Nagpur.

The nearest railway station from Pench is Dadasaheb Ambedkar International airport.   Sonegaon airport in Nagpur is 93 km from the Pench National Park.

Nearest Railway Station: Jabalpur, Chhindwara & Nagpur

Seoni which is 3o km away from Pench National park is the nearest railhead to Pench and also has regular trains. 

By Road: Pench is very well connected to Nagpur by NH 7. It takes 2 hours and 47 minutes from Nagpur to reach Pench National Park by road. The distance between Pench and Nagpur is 130.9 km.
